ZONE Office Won Prestigious BIG SEE Award: A Harmony of Nature and Technology Recognized Internationally
The coworking space ZONE Office, located in the BBC5 business center in Bratislava, has been awarded the top prize in the Workspace category at the international BIG SEE Awards 2025. Designed by Slovak architecture studio ADBA Architects and developed for WOOD Real Estate, the project triumphed over more than 150 entries from 16 countries across Central and Southeastern Europe.
The jury praised the unique design that seamlessly integrates biophilic principles with modern technologies, creating an environment that supports creativity, focus, and user well-being.
“From the very beginning, we believed in the architectural concept of ZONE Offices and made a strategic decision to invest in it. Today, this vision has been transformed into a popular and commercially successful project. Its near-full occupancy — despite the strong coworking competition in Bratislava — is the best proof of that. The BIG SEE Awards recognition, in a competition where more than 1,000 projects from the region participate annually, along with strong interest from tenants, confirms that combining a high-quality architectural solution with the right business strategy delivers not only visual impact but also expected capital returns,” explains Miroslav Hilčík, Investment Director at WOOD Real Estate.
The award ceremony took place on May 23 at the historic former salt warehouse Grando in Portorož, Slovenia, as part of the BIG Architecture international event. The winning projects, including ZONE Office, are published on the official competition website: https://bigsee.eu/zone-offices/
A Dynamic Work Ecosystem in the Heart of Bratislava
Located in the vibrant business district of Bratislava, in the BBC5 building on Plynárenská Street, ZONE Offices redefine modern workspace design by promoting productivity, creativity, and tenant well-being. These shared spaces are conceived as dynamic ecosystems, engaging users through advanced technology, biophilic design, and functional layout.
ZONE is designed to adapt to the immediate needs of its users, addressing the fluid challenges of everyday work with flexibility and intention.
The award-winning design was developed by Slovak studio ADBA Architects. “While designing the space, we aimed to strike a balance between openness and privacy. ZONE offers flexible spaces for collaboration as well as quiet zones. Rich green partitions and sound-insulated materials enhance comfort and create a harmonious working environment,” explains Ing. arch. Adam Kubica, founder of ADBA Architects and lead author of the award-winning concept.
The Fusion of Biophilia and Modern Technology
ZONE Office is built on the principles of biophilic design—incorporating greenery into the interior to enhance environmental quality while contributing to an appealing aesthetic. A central vertical garden lies at the heart of the interior, combining beauty with functionality by improving air quality and infusing the space with vitality. Green elements line every corridor, creating a pleasant and cohesive visual language.
A thoughtful interplay of glass surfaces and artificial lighting that mimics natural daylight results in a captivating dance of light and shadow. The jury recognized the project’s strong environmental approach, which includes the use of natural and recyclable materials. Wood is a dominant element throughout the interior, and the acoustic panels are crafted from wood fibers. The space prioritizes local service providers, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
“By seamlessly merging technology with nature, we transform the traditional office into a living, adaptive ecosystem,”adds Kubica. “We’ve created an environment that not only meets the functional demands of a modern workplace but also fosters well-being and a sense of calm for its users.”
“We are thrilled and deeply honored to receive the BIG SEE Interior Design Award. It is a powerful validation that even in Slovakia, we can create spaces that are not only functional but also elevate their surroundings and bring about positive impact. ZONE Office is the result of teamwork, a bold client, and a relentless pursuit of harmony between technology, aesthetics, and nature,” concludes Adam Kubica.
